Fun learning for Youth (FLY) is made up of a group of 50 young professionals committed to playing a meaningful role in the lives of young learners through volunteering their time and skills.

We tutor mathematics from Grade 8 to Grade 12 on Saturday mornings. We believe that it is only through education that South Africa can unlock its true potential. Many of the founding members of FLY themselves grew up in poverty-stricken areas. FLY provides lunch packs to its students and also specializes in life skills. FLY aims to nurture well-rounded students who can face life's challenges. Students are encouraged to set goals and dream big.

Our Mission

Fun Learning for Youth (FLY) is a not-for-profit organization providing mathematics tutoring services to secondary school learners in underserved communities.FLY offers a unique platform for young professionals to volunteer their time, as tutors, and experience, as mentors, to empower less-privileged youths through education.

Tutor sessions are hosted at the JL Zwane community centre in Gugulethu which is a centralized location allowing FLY to draw students from schools in the townships of Gugulethu, Langa and Khayelitsha.

The FLY program is focused on ensuring learners remain within the school system beyond the compulsory age, elect pure mathematics over mathematics literacy in grade 10, excel at mathematics obtaining a bachelor pass in grade 12, attend a tertiary institution and ultimately qualifying as a professional.

Funding Model

FLY funding needs at present relate to the financing of annual operating costs and an array of projects in the pipeline. These projects include the implementation of e-learning to the programme, facilitating building extensions at JL Zwane to provide additional classrooms, establishing a scholarship for learners to attend a "Model C" school as well as the institutions of higher education.
