I am Ndumiso Zulu, from Umlazi Township, south of Durban in KZN. I have 3 siblings and did my entire schooling career in Umlazi. I got above average marks (as a result of extra classes, similar to the FLY model) in school and was able to obtain a Gallagher scholarship to study any degree at UCT. I chose Bcomm Accounting undergrad, Bcomm Honours in FAPM.

My passion has been to tutor (mathematics, which I tutored for 3 years in university) and make money (hence the career path I chose). I decided to join FLY so I could give students the opportunity that I was afforded, which has yielded great results (relatively).

I am a private equity investment professional. I chose this career path because I believe that it encompasses all the key elements I need to learn in order to be a leader in business.

Outside of tutoring and work. I enjoy video games, reading and cooking. Actually, I love cooking.

I am best described as an ambitious, inquisitive and passionate woman. I am interested in women development especially in the financial services sector, considering the lack of representation of women within the sector.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting as well as an Honours degree in Taxation and Technical Compliance from the University of Cape Town. I am passionate about wealth creation as well as other emerging financial markets. My biggest strength is my ability to establish long-term relationships and to be relatable in a way that adds enduring value.

I believe in the potential that Africa possesses, the untapped human resources that will someday be the engine that drives Africa into greener pastures. Through opportunities such as those that extend themselves to the people who are yet to take centre stage, especially young women of colour. To bring in fresh minds that are not limited by the book or circumstance and harnessing that very potential which is the missing ingredient in building an Africa worth celebrating is an ideal I endorse. One which has elevated me from the dark corners of the township into a global citizen that shares the values of creating an inclusive society and above all a society that is not limited by resource or history.

I was born, grew up and went to school and university in Cape Town.

I graduated from UCT with honours in finance and a postgraduate diploma in actuarial science. I currently work at Constellation Capital, a small derivatives brokerage, with a bunch of amazing guys.

Tutoring is something which I have wanted to be a part of for a long time and I’m glad it’s finally worked out with FLY. It’s been a privilege and an incredible experience so far.

Apart from that, I enjoy keeping fit and slowly working on my Xhosa, where it’s actually the students who are the ones tutoring me. 🙂
