I was born in the Eastern Cape, to parents who believe that education is of the utmost importance. My father is a magistrate and my mother a nurse by profession. At the end of matric, I received a bursary to study accounting at the University of Cape Town as so for me education is an enabler and excellence is a prerequisite. Professionally I am a qualified Chartered Accountant and I lead on Enterprise and Supplier Development at Old Mutual. Here my role is to develop small and growing businesses by providing affordable enterprise finance, access to the Old Mutual value and supply chains and providing business development interventions.

As the Chairperson of this wonderful organisation, Fun Learning for Youth (FLY) my vision is to create positive futures through education for young learners from disadvantaged communities. I am particularly passionate about developing relevant skills for youth and making a contribution to sustainable entrepreneurship.

I would drop almost everything to travel the world. I am an avid reader and I dabble in photography.

I am originally from KwaZulu Natal and I am currently doing my postgraduate diploma in accounting at the University of the Western Cape. I grew up in Pietermaritzburg and did all of my schoolings there. When I matriculated, I was offered a bursary to study Accounting by Thuthuka. I had no other choice but to accept the bursary even though I had not done any business subjects in high school because I could not afford to pay for my own varsity fees. I graduated with an Accounting degree in 2017 and started doing my postgraduate diploma in accounting with the hopes of becoming a charted accountant soon. I am very passionate about investments, business and education. I currently have multiple investments accounts where I invest in different securities. I also love running businesses and currently, I have a bookkeeping business that I run part-time. Most of all I love relaying information to others, I believe it helps me learn more about myself and the topic at hand while helping out the other person. I have been formally tutoring since 2015 at varsity, now at FLY and I have no intentions of stopping any time soon.

I was born in Pietermaritzburg, started school in Johannesburg, I did half my primary schooling in Alice and then Mthatha; the rest of it and high school in King William’s Town. You can say I have been around and have the scars to show for it. I enrolled for a BCom in Accounting at UCT in 2001 with the intention of becoming a chartered accountant, but because the people marking my papers did not agree with my answers I later changed my major to Economics. I joined FLY when it started in February 2010 as the Secretary, a position which I held till 2017. I have a passion for developing young people, as I am also involved in rugby development. Outside of tutoring, you will find me either ‘socialising’, in a squash court, on the road either running or cycling or the rugby field playing a game of touch rugby. 5 times a week I work as a wealth manager at Personal Trust where I have been for 12 years. My other job is being a husband and a father to my 7-year-old boy.

A young woman who is passionate about raising African leaders and strongly believes that every child should have an equal opportunity to succeed no matter their race, gender or background.
Originally from KwaZulu Natal, I moved to Cape Town in 2007 to pursue my studies at UCT and 11 years later I think I can safely call Cape Town my home away from home. I work at Coronation Fund Managers as a Personal Investment Analyst and have been with the company for 6 wonderful years.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, African literature being my literature of choice. The Bluest Eye is by far my favourite book and Toni Morrison is everything!! On my bedside table, you will find 3 books and a bible.

I greatly inspired by your everyday woman who is on a quest to build first herself and those around her. Being around people brings me great joy.

In my next life, I would be a fashion influencer/buyer.

I am Ndumiso Zulu, from Umlazi Township, south of Durban in KZN. I have 3 siblings and did my entire schooling career in Umlazi. I got above average marks (as a result of extra classes, similar to the FLY model) in school and was able to obtain a Gallagher scholarship to study any degree at UCT. I chose Bcomm Accounting undergrad, Bcomm Honours in FAPM.

My passion has been to tutor (mathematics, which I tutored for 3 years in university) and make money (hence the career path I chose). I decided to join FLY so I could give students the opportunity that I was afforded, which has yielded great results (relatively).

I am a private equity investment professional. I chose this career path because I believe that it encompasses all the key elements I need to learn in order to be a leader in business.

Outside of tutoring and work. I enjoy video games, reading and cooking. Actually, I love cooking.

I graduated from UCT with honours in finance and a postgraduate diploma in actuarial science. I currently work at Constellation Capital, a small derivatives brokerage, with a bunch of amazing guys.

Tutoring is something which I have wanted to be a part of for a long time and I’m glad it’s finally worked out with FLY. It’s been a privilege and an incredible experience so far.

Apart from that, I enjoy keeping fit and slowly working on my Xhosa, where it’s actually the students who are the ones tutoring me. 🙂

I’m a Durban-born, Cape Town-pruned, Joburg-based writer who loves teaching high school learners. I’ve spent most of my young career curating, writing and editing content for some of your favourite publications and brands in media and marketing environments. I’m most in my element when I’m altogether learning and educating through my work and travels.

Being part of FLY lets me explore my passion for learning, social development, media, communication and youth; particularly in South Africa’s unequal, post-Apartheid context. I’m one of those weird, creative types who’s slightly left-brain inclined – which helps when you’re trying to teach Grade 9s bizarre theorems without losing their attention.
